It was a perfect day for golf on Monday and the Decorah Viking girls golf team played nearly perfect rounds of golf, finishing second to Class2A #1-ranked New Hampton at the Northeast Iowa Conference Girls Golf Championships at Oneota Golf & Country Club in Decorah.

Four of the six Viking golfers finished the day with scores below 100.  Senior Ann Meirick again led the way for the Vikings, shooting an 89 to finish in fifth place overall.  Junior Tori Hines was among a group of four golfers who finished in seventh place with 94s.  Audrey Casterton shot a 97 and earned All-NEIC honors along with Meirick and Casterton.  Senior Emma Fretheim just missed All-Conference honors by finishing with a 98.

Decorah's Olivia Fahey shot a 109 and Izzy Elwood shot a 136 for the Decorah varsity.

Five of the New Hampton Chickasaw golfers earned all-NEIC honors on Monday as the team finished at 328.  Decorah was second at 378; Crestwood was six strokes back at 384; Waverly shot a 394; Charles City carded a 404; Waukon shot a 410 and Oelwein played fewer than four golfers.

Decorah's record is now 12 wins and 2 losses, with both losses coming to #1-ranked New Hampton.
