Swim team does well at its first meet of the season

The Northeastern Swim Team recently competed in the first meet of their long course season and did well at the 2019 LMST Spring Splash in Marion.

Elizabeth Bucksa earned her first ever state qualifying time in the Girls 10 & under 50 free with a time of 32.14, placing second overall. She went on to swim a personal best in the 200 IM with a time of 3:26.72, placing third. Elizabeth also placed third in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 fly.

Sydney Thompson earned a Q-Time in the Girls 10 & Under 200 free. Sydney placed first in the event with a time of 2:39.34. She also earned a first-place finish in the 50 breast and 200 IM and a third-place finish in the 50 fly.

Jaylee Vobr dropped nearly one second off her time in the Girls 11 & 12 200 IM, earning a second-place finish with the time of 2:46.36. She also placed fifth in the 50 breast and seventh in the 50 fly.

Naomi Kutz placed sixth in the Girls 10 & Under 50 breast with a time of 50.84. She also achieved a personal best time in the 50 and 100 free.

Garrett Vobr competed in the Boys 10 & Under 100 free and placed fifth with a time of 1:25.09. He also earned sixth place in the 50 fly and seventh place in the 50 free.

Braunwyn Darrington swam a personal best in all three of her events, the Girls 11 & 12 50 free, 100 free and 50 back. Isabella Sailor also achieved a personal best time in the Girls 11 & 12 50 back.

In total, NST swimmers achieved 17 personal best times.

New NST head coach Mike Schuenke said, "I don't think I could have asked for a better start to my career."  He has been selected to be a 2019 Team Iowa coach at the Central Zone Championship meet in Fargo, North Dakoat, August 1st through August 4th.
