The Decorah Viking boys tennis team got a reality check on Thursday when they met 5th-ranked Waterloo Columbus, losing 8-1.

Nevertheless, head coach Reg Laursen said after the match, "I couldn't be prouder of how hard the guys fought in this match.  It does show that we are not quite at the level to win at the elite level in the state."

Decorah's lone win came at #4 singles, where Kaj SpencerBerg needed a 10-5 victory in the tiebreaker to earn the "W."  Aidan Hunter's match at #1 singles was a lot closer than the 6-0, 6-0 score would indicate.  Gabe Anderson at #5 singles was right there in the second set after getting rocked in the first.  In doubles play, both the #2 and #3 doubles matches went to tiebreakers.

IIn JV play Rex Huinker, Brendan Hunter, Finn Deen-Lester, Edwin Holyoake, Will Schwarz, Angel Pena, Bryan Anderson, Jesus Pena, Noah Tapscott, Luke Walter, Conner Cook, Zach Garwood, Nic Reilly, Owen Henning, Caleb Huebner, Wyatt Hackman, Alex Zweibohmer, Grant Timm, Benton Sparrow, Dane Cole and Thomas Foster had six wins, seven losses and one tie.

The Vikings will travel to Waverly at Wednesday.
