Viking boys track team wins closely-fought Northeast Iowa Conference Track Meet

The Decorah Viking boys track team has earned another Northeast Iowa Conference title.
At the conference meet in Cresco Thursday, the Vikings finished with 146 points, followed by Waverly-Shell Rock with 125 points and Charles City with 96 points. Crestwood, Waukon, New Hampton and Oelwein rounded out the field.
The Vikings used three first place finishes in individual events and four first place finishes in relay events to earn the championship. Senior Gus Hayes won the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:08.33. Hayes also took the 1,600 meter run, finishing with a time of 4:34.02, just beating Sam Kepford from Waverly. Andrew Magner crossed the finish line first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.54 seconds.
As is typical with Decorah track teams, the Decorah boys did well in the relay events. The team of Jason Adam, Mikel Fullhart, Beirgen Gunhus-Dansdill and Cameron DeLong finished first in the 800 Sprint Medley, crossing the finish line in 1:37.97. Mikel Fullhart, Haywood Stowe, Seth Shindelar and Gabriel Vilardo won the Distance Medley with a time of 3:53.64. The 4x200 meter relay team of Haywood Stowe, Mike Fullhart, Drew Snyder and Jason Adam finished first with a time of 1:34.25. And the 4x100 meter relay team of Haywood Stowe, Mikel Fullhart, Jason Adam and Beirgen Gunhus-Dansdill took first with a time of 45.43 seconds.
Adding to the Vikings' point total were two second place finishes. Cameron DeLong was runner-up in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.86 seconds, while Beirgen Gunhus-Dansdill was second with a 200 meter dash time of 23.56 seconds.
Next up for the Viking boys track team will be Districts on Thursday afternoon in Charles City.
