Decorah boys tennis players are Conference champions

The Decorah Viking boys tennis team played in a conference tournament for the first time ever on Monday--and for the first time ever, the Decorah boys became conference champions.

The second of the 7-team tournament was Decorah 50, Maquoketa 32, Oelwein 30, Independence 29, Marion 24, Waverly-Shell Rock 19 and South Tama 5.
 
Billy Lange, Joe Holland, Gabriel Anderson and Hayden Carlson earned All Conference status by winning their flights in singles, while Aidan Hunter and Kai SpencerBerg had second place finishes.  Aidan Hunter and Billy Lange at #1 doubles and Joe Holland and Kaj SpencerBerg at #2 doubles were All Conference, while Rex Huinker and Edwin Holyoake finished third at #3 doubles.

Billy Lange had a standout day by not giving up a single game in the four matches he participated in. 

Said head coach Reg Laursen, "Thanks go to the fans who helped squeegee and cheer.  Fan support really helps.  Thanks to assistant coaches Matt Anderson and Drew Pellett for their help. Tennis can be grueling and/or stressful at times but boy was it fun Monday." 

#1 singles:  Aidan Hunter won 6-0 and 6-0 before losing 4-6 to take the runner up medal.
#2 singles:  Billy Lange won 6-0 and 6-0  to become conference champion.
#3 singles:  Joe Holland won 6-3 and 6-4  to become conference champion.
#4 singles:  Kaj SpencerBerg won 6-0 before losing 5-7 to take the runner up medal.
#5 singles:  Gabriel Anderson won 6-0, 6-4 and 6-0 to become conference champion.
#6 singles:  Hayden Carlson won 6-3 and 6-1 to become conference champion .

#1 doubles:  Aidan Hunter and Billy Lange won 6-0 and 6-0 to become conference champions.
#2 doubles:  Joe Holland and Kaj SpencerBerg won 6-2, 7-6 and 6-2 to become conference champions.
#3 doubles:  Rex Huinker and Edwin Holyoake lost 2-6, then won 6-3 to take third place.
