In 2018 IGHSAU dropped golf back to four classes and Decorah is back in 3A. The Decorah girls golf team placed 5th out of 7 in their conference last season and head coach Scott Pierce begins his 12th season coaching the team.

Two letter winners graduated last year including Sydney Byrnes who averaged 61.61 for 9 holes and Alex Nesset  who averaged 65.00 for 9 holes.

Returning letterwinners include senior Ann Meirick who is a 3x letter winner, 2x All-NEIC, and averaged 48.92 per 9 holes,  junior Audrey Casterton a 2x letter winner with an average of 54.80 per 9 holes, junior Tori Hines a 2018 letter winner with an average of 56.52 per 9 holes, senior Emma Fretheim a 2018 letter winner with an average 61.43 per 9 holes, junior Olivia Fahey a 2018 letter winner with a 62.44 average per 9 holes, junior Liliana McGohan a 2018 letter winner with an average of 68.59 per 9 holes, and junior Izzy Elwood a 2018 letter winner with an average of 69.83 per 9 holes.

"Last season we began with only two returning letter winners, and they had a combined three letters won between them. They are both back as well as five more young women who all saw a handful of varsity competition (or more) last season. We are much more experienced this season. We also bring back a large group of younger women who are all in a position to make the strides necessary to make our depth even stronger. We host the girls NEIC meet this season at Oneota, and 8 of our 11 regular season meets are in Decorah, so that is very helpful," says head coach Pierce.

"We have good numbers and plenty of returning letter winners, but we have to translate that into lower meet scores than we did in 2018," added Pierce about heading into the season

Pierce added, "New Hampton will be considered the favorite by everybody. Most of the rest us will all be battling for an upper division finish."

The Vikings will not learn of their 3A Regional Meet assignment until well into April. There will be five Class 3A Regional Final meets of 12 teams each with the top 2 teams at each meet advancing to state, along with the top 8 individuals at each Regional Final meet.

The girls first competition is scheduled for Monday, April 8th at Silvercrest Golf and Country Club against Charles City.
