The Decorah girls track and field team won five events at the NEIC Indoor track and field meet Tuesday at Wartburg. "We took a nice step forward in our ability to compete," commented coach Brad Johansen.
Fiona Buresh placed first in the 55 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 7.44. Rose Gullekson placed third with her time of 7.70. Brooke Berns won the 200 meter dash in 26.75. Grace Thompson was right behind her, crossing the line at 29.23. Olivia Battle won the 400 meter dash in 1:09.73.
In the 800 meter run Britta Swanson finished in 7th place in 2:49.19 and Abby Halverson was eighth with her time of 2:49.91. Samantha See finished in 5th place in the 1500 meter run in 5:55.80. Leila Johnson finished second in the 3000 meter run in 11:57.61.
Grace Syverson finished in 4th place in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.60, and Ambria Pipho finished 8th in 9.88.
In the 4 x 200 meter relay, the team Rose Gullekson, Cassie Wyatt, Grace Syverson, and Amanda Kuehner claimed first place with their time of 1:53.66. The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Fiona Buresh, Brooke Berns, Brielle Buresh, and Amanda Kuehner won the race in 4:31.06. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Brooke Courtney, Meg Sessions, Abby Halverson, and Shayla Betts finished in 3rd place with their time of 10:56.95.
The distance medley team of Brielle Buresh, Rose Gullekson, Ambria Pipho, and Brooke Courtney finished in 2nd place in 4:46.54.
In field events Ashley Schneberger won the high jump as she cleared 4 feet, 10 inches. Ambria Pipho was 3rd with her jump of 4 feet, 8 inches. Ellie Luzum finished 6th in the long jump at 13 feet, 11.5 inches and Olivia Mettille was 7th with her jump of 13 feet, 11.25 inches. Avery Shelton finished in 5th place in the shot put with her throw of 31 feet, 11 inches and Katherine Bruening finished 10th with her throw of 30 feet, 3 inches.
