Luther wrestler qualifies for NCAA Division III Nationals

Luther senior wrestler Michael Suarez has qualified for the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships.

Suarez finished third in the 165 pound weight class at the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional held over the weekend at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque.  The top-three place winners in each weight class qualified for the national championships.  The NCAA Division III National Championships will be held Friday and Saturday, March 8th and 9th, in Roanoke, Virginia.

After winning his initial match, Suarez lost to Ben Hewson of Cornell College in the quarterfinals during the first day of competition.  On Sunday Suarez won his final four matches on the backside of the championship bracket and earned his first trip to the national finale.

Luther 184 pound wrestler Ira Kuehn finished fourth in his bracket, while Conner Murphy at 125 pounds and Tyler DiFiore at 133 pounds both placed sixth, Teagan Miller finished seventh at 157 pounds and Gilbert Valadez at 149 pounds had an eighth place finish.

Luther finished seventh in the 17-team regional, posting 84 points.
