The Decorah boys bowling team ended their season at the district qualifying tournament on Tuesday at Oneota Lanes. The Vikings finished in third place with 2,856 pins. West Delaware finished first with 3020, and Western Dubuque was second with 2,943. Waterloo East had 2,799, Marion had 2,785, and Waverly-Shell Rock had 2,572.
Sophomore Tyler Thompson had an amazing night as he shot a 299 in his first game, just missing the 7 pin on his last shot. Thompson finished with a series of 479, finishing first overall which earned him a spot at the state tournament next Tuesday.
Also bowling for Decorah was Keagen Einck who bowled a 385, Justin Redenius had a 372, Luke Iverson had a 352, and Breydon Johnson bowled a 337.
In baker games the boys bowled 162, 204, 176, 185, and 204.
Head coach Keith Bruening had nothing but high praise for the team, "We competed against 2-3 of the best teams in the state. We came up short by a few pins, but they knew we showed up. Tyler Thompson shot a 299, fun to watch him, he left a 7 pin on a pretty nice shot. He's only a sophomore, qualified for the state tournament. Nice job! I'm awfully proud of these boys!! They all come back in 2019-20! I wish next year was here. It's going to be fun! We had a great season!"
There was a record breaking crowd of 251 spectators watching the bowlers this year at Oneota Lanes.
