In a game which saw several momentum changes and was close throughout, the New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team made shots when they counted and defeated the Decorah Vikings 58-53 Friday night in Decorah.

The Chickasaws came out hot and took an early 9-4 lead, but the Vikings scored the next 11 points to lead 15-9 at the end of the first quarter.  Then momentum switched to the Chickasaws, who outscored Decorah 19-11 in the second quarter to take a 28-26 halftime lead.  It stayed very close in the third quarter, with New Hampton leading by 1 point at the end of the quarter, 38-37.  The Chickasaws went on another scoring streak to lead 47-37 in the fourth quarter, but Decorah came back and got as close as three points, trailing 51-48.  But New Hampton took the victory by outscoring Decorah down the stretch for the 58-53 win.

"Our guys battled for four quarters, but made some uncharacteristic errors, which resulted in the loss," said Viking Head Coach Jonathon Carlson.

Decorah is now 3-5 in the Northeast Iowa Conference and 5-9 overall.  Decorah will taken on North Fayette/Valley on Saturday night.
