Decorah High School Activities Director and Associate Principal Adam Riley has been named Head Varsity Baseball Coach, pending school board approval.
Riley will replace Dennis Olejniczak, who retired after 55 years in the program as the head coach. Riley's position is a one-year interim position, which will allow the school district to then conduct a search for a head coach who will lead the baseball program starting with the 2019-2020 school year.
Riley served as the Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Charles City for three years and as the 8th Grade Baseball Coach at Decorah for four years.
"I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to lead the baseball program this summer and am looking forward to the challenge of having multiple responsibilities with this position. This is a very unique opportunity to help the baseball program transition into another era after the dedication and passion given by Coach O and Paula for the past 55 years. We hope to give the student-athletes involved in the baseball program the best possible experience this summer to grow and learn more about the game of baseball, while most importantly helping them become better teammates and the best version of themselves they can be. The success of the Decorah Baseball program through the years has been based on the hard work and resilience of the players in the program. It is my hope to continue to honor the work of our current players and families by pushing those involved in the program to do the same and while having fun."
