Decorah girls cross country team keeps the streak alive with their 15th straight NEIC Championship

The Decorah Viking girls cross country team now holds the longest consecutive championship streak in any sport in Northeast Iowa Conference history, with their conference win Tuesday night at Waverly.
This is the 15th straight win for the girls. It was a close race as Decorah won the meet with 48 points and Charles City was just 4 points behind with 52 points. Crestwood had 60 points, Waukon had 87 points, Waverly-Shell Rock had 109 points, and New Hampton had 180 points.
Leila Johnson crossed the finish line in 6th place with her time of 21:35. Shayla Betts was close behind with her time of 21:43, good for 7th place. Brooke Courtney was 10th with her time of 22:02. Fiona Buresh was 12th with her time of 22:23. Taryn Sanderman was 13th, finishing in 22:25. Meg Sessions was 17th with her time of 22:32. Britta Swanson was 21st with her time of 22:49.
The girls teams ran together in one combined race with the rainy weather and soggy course.
The JV team also won their conference meet with a perfect score of 15. Charles City was 2nd with 64 points, Waverly-Shell Rock was 3rd with 82 points, and Crestwood was 4th with 87 points.
Kalea Oftendahl led the Vikings with her time of 22:49, crossing the finish line in 1st place. Brielle Buresh was 2nd in 22:49. Annette Leschensky was 3rd with her time of 22:53. Payton Taylor was 4th in 23:17. Cassidy Carolan was 5th in 23:18. Samantha See was 6th in 23:33. Gracia Taylor was 7th in 23:49.
Next up for the girls is the regional meet next Thursday, October 18th at Independence.
