Decorah freshman football team loses to West Delaware

The Decorah Vikings freshman football team played well during the first half of its game Friday night against West Delaware, but the Hawks took control in the second half to defeat Decorah, 40-10.
Decorah's Brody Young kicked a 42-yd field goal to give the Vikings an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter. West Delaware came back with a touchdown and two-point conversion to lead 8-3 at the end of the first quarter. Decorah's Trysten Finholt hauled in a 58-yard touchdown pass from Keenan Tyler, but West Delaware led 16-10 at halftime.
"We played quite well in the first half against a very fine team but we just could not stop them in the second half," said Viking coach Scott Pierce. The Hawks made it 32-10 by the end of the third quarter and 40-10 as the final score.
The Viking freshmen are now 4-3 on the season and will travel to face Waterloo East at 5:00 p.m. Friday.
