Decorah girls cross country team finishes 5th at Western Dubuque Invitational

The Decorah girls varsity team finished in 5th place out of over 20 teams at Western Dubuque on Thursday. Wahlert Catholic won the meet with 82 points, Hempstead had 83 points, Cedar Rapids Prairie had 108 points, Cedar Rapids Kennedy had 128 points, and Decorah had 143 points.

Shayla Betts led the Vikings with her 11th place finish and time of 20:30.3. Leila Johnson finished in  22nd place in 20:54.8. Brooke Courtney finished 30th with her time of 21:15.6. Britta Swanson finished in 21.42.8, good for 38th place. Annette Leschensky finished 42nd in 21:51.8.

The jv team finished in 2nd place with 67 points and Cedar Rapids Prairie won the meet with 31 points.

Taryn Sanderman was the first Viking to cross the finish line with her time of 22:101.4, putting her in 6th place. Kalea Oftedahl was 8th with her time of 22:19.6. Payton Taylor was 16th with her time of 22:48.2. Brielle Buresh was 18th, finishing in 22:52.8. Ella Kittelson was 19th, crossing the line in 22:58.9.

Tuesday the Vikings will compete at South Winn with the jv girls' race beginning at 4:45 p.m.
