For the Decorah Viking football team on this Friday night, it was a rerun of a show they didn't like the first time it happened last Friday night.  The Vikings again jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on the foot of Cameron DeLong, who made a 33-yard field goal.  But just as happened last Friday for the Vikings at Cedar Rapids Xavier, that was the extent of their scoring.

The Bobcats got on the board at 9:15 left in the second quarter when Ben Bryant ran 9 yards into the end zone to make it 6-3 Western Dubuque.  A little more than 3 minutes later—with 5:48 left in the quarter—Bobcat quarterback Calvin Harris found receiver Drake George for a 20-yard touchdown, making it 13-3 Bobcats.

In the closing minutes of the first half, Western Dubuque marched down to inside the Viking 10-yard line.  The Bobcats went for it on 4th down and 1 yard to go--and made it.  It took them three more plays, but Harris threw a touchdown pass to receiver Payton Quagliano with time expiring, making it 19-3 at halftime.

After halftime, the Vikings wrote a different script than last Friday night, when they lost to Cedar Rapids Xavier, 45-3.  The Viking defense held tight and stopped West Delaware at the Viking 5 yard line, keeping the score at 19-3.  Then Decorah quarterback Jace Johnson threw a pass to Drake Shelton, who took it 57 yards, deep into Western Dubuque territory.  The Vikings marched to the Western Dubuque 11-yard line only to fumble the football.  That kept the score at 19-3 Western Dubuque at the end of the third quarter.  In the fourth quarter, a pass interference call against the Vikings moved Western Dubuque to the Viking 15-yard line, but a 25-yard field goal try was wide right.  The Vikings were unable to get much of an offense going and the game ended the same way the first half ended—with the score 19-3.

Decorah is now 1-2 on the season, while Western Dubuque is undefeated with a 3-0 record.  The Vikings will play at home Friday for Homecoming, taking on the Crestwood Cadets.
