The Decorah Viking freshman football team jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter of its game Thursday night against Western Dubuque in Decorah and never looked back. The Vikings wound up with a 28-10 victory against the Bobcats.

Joe Bockman had a 9-yard TD run and Zach Jermier scored on a 37-yard TD reception from Keenan Tyler to earn the first half advantage.  After halftime the Vikings scored twice in the third quarter--once on Jacob Pipho's 55-yard punt return touchdown and once on Joe Bockman's 2- yard touchdown reception from Keenan Tyler--to take a commanding 28-2 lead into the final quarter.  The Bobcats pushed across a touchdown in the closing minutes, but the Vikings preserved their victory.

Keenan Tyler was 6-for-10 passing with 136 yards total and two touchdowns for the Vikings, while Joseph Bockman led the Viking running backs with 32 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Head coach Scott Pierce praised the performance of his team, saying, "We played quite well in all three phases of the game. 18 different players recorded at least one tackle and 9 different players had at least one carry on offense."

The Viking freshmen will take on the Crestwood Cadets at 5:00 p.m. Friday for the opening game of Decorah High School's Homecoming.
