The Northeastern Swim Team (NST) represented Team Iowa during the Central Zone Championships at the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis over the weekend.
Topher Bigalk (14) qualified for the meet in the 13-14 200 Breast. Cole Huebner (14) qualified for the meet in the 13-14 50 Free and 13-14 100 Free. Katerina Kovarik (12) qualified for the meet in the 11-12 800 Free and 11-12 1500 Free. Jaylee Vobr (10) qualified for the meet in the 10 & Under 50 Fly and 10 & Under 100 Fly.
Coach Chandler Roberson was also chosen as one of the Team Iowa Coaches for the Central Zone Championships.
"We had four swimmers and one coach from NST represent Team Iowa over the weekend," said Head Coach Eric Crawford. "All five had never been to the Zone Championship before so it was a great opportunity for them to compete against some fastest swimmers in the nation."
Both Vobr and Kovarik were the first female representatives from NST to compete for Team Iowa at the Central Zone Championships.
Other states represented at this meet were: Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Team Iowa finished 4th with 2513.5 points, Wisconsin finished 3rd with 2791.5 points and Minnesota finished 2nd with 4905.5 points. Illinois won the meet with 5963 points.
Bigalk finished 28th in the 13-14 200 Breast (2:59.26) and was on Team Iowa's 13-14 400 Medley A Relay that finished 6th (4:24.15) and 200 Medley B Relay that finished 11th (2:01.35).
Huebner finished 50th in the 13-14 50 free (27.47) and 45th in the 13-14 100 Free (1:00.06).
Kovarik finished 25th in the 11-12 800 Free (11:01.74) and 14th in the 11-12 1500 Free (20:21.57).
Vobr finished 23rd in the 10 & Under 100 Fly (1:25.73) and 40th in the 10 & Under 50 Fly (38.77). She was also a part of Team Iowa's 10 & Under 200 Free Relay that finished 7th (2:20.30) and 10 & Under 200 Medley Relay that finished 8th (2:40.78).
The Northeastern Swim Team will take a break until September. Registration for the upcoming season will open Sunday, August 12th.
