The Decorah Viking baseball team will host first and second round playoff games Friday and Monday.

On Friday West Delaware and Vinton-Shellsburg will play first, at 5:00 p.m.  Decorah then will play against Independence at 7:00 p.m.  The Mustangs play in the WaMac Conference, 16 mid-sized schools in east central Iowa.  The Mustangs are 8-12 on the season, pending the outcome of a make-up doubleheader Wednesday against Clear Creek Amana.

The winners of those two games will return to play at 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 16th, for the District 6 championship.  That means if Decorah wins on Friday night, it will face either West Delaware or Vinton-Shellsburg.  West Delaware is 24-10-1 on the season while Vinton-Shellsburg ended its regular season with a 4-3 loss to Charles City on Tuesday, giving it a losing record.

The winner of Monday night's game will travel to Waverly on Wednesday, July 18th to face the District 5 champion, which wil be one team from a field of Waverly-Shell Rock, Cresco Crestwood, Charles City and Center Point-Urbana. That game will be played at Waverly-Shell Rock High School at 7:00 p.m. next Wednesday, with a trip to the State Class 3A Baseball Tournament on the line.
