Decorah and Waverly remain tied for second place in the NEIC after splitting a doubleheader Tuesday

Decorah pticher Tom Knoke had a complete game shutout Tuesday night in Waverly, allowing just two hits and striking out eight in the second game at Waverly.

Knoke's performance in the 2-0 Decorah victory was important because Waverly had won the first game of the doubleheader, 8-5.  In that game Knoke went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in, Jackson Varney went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.  But Viking pitching gave up 8 runs to give Waverly a chance to sweep a doubleheader and take sole possession of second place.

Knoke made sure that didn't happen in the nightcap, so Decorah and Waverly now both have 11 wins and 4 losses in Northeast Iowa Conference play--each one-and-a-half games behind first place New Hampton, which is 13-3.

Decorah will play non-conference games in Waterloo Wednesday and Thursday, facing Waterloo Columbus, then Waterloo East.  Friday the Vikings will return to conference play, traveling to Oelwein.
