Decorah Viking girls tennis doubles team plays in Class 1A State Doubles Tournament

Seniors Carina Yee and Vita Domnenko took part Wednesday in the Iowa Class 1A Doubles Tournament in Waterloo.

The two took on the regional champions from Estherville-Lincoln Center in their first match, splitting the first two games, 6-4 and 4-6.  In the deciding third set Decorah's duo came on strong and won 6-2.

That sent them into the second round against the doubles team from Waterloo Columbus which would eventually win the state title.  After losing a match 0-8 to Olivia Fain and Taylor Hogan earlier in the season, Yee and Domnenko won two games, but still were sent into the consolation bracket with a 1-6, 1-6 loss.

The first set against a doubles team from Camanche was even until Kendel Evans and Josie Condon took control and the Decorah doubles team lost 4-6, 0-6.

Carina Yee finished with a 41-16 singles record and a 55-18-3 doubles record.  She was conference athlete of the year her senior season and was academic all-conference twice.  Vita Domnenko finished with a 36-13-1 singles record and a 38-14-2 doubles record.  She also was academic all-conference twice.
