Viking girls track team scores more points at the State Track Meet on Friday

The Decorah Viking girls track & field team is in 5th place at the State Class 3A Track Meet--thanks to its strong roster of relay teams.

After two relay teams finished third and fourth on Thursday, the Viking Distance Medley Relay team outdid that by finishing second Friday afternoon.  Allie Hafner, Sarah Mikkelson, Fiona Buresh and Katie Nimrod finished second with a time of 4:07.6.

But the Viking relay teams weren't finished.  Fiona Buresh, Allie Hafner, Rylea Ranum and Rose Gullekson finished 6th in the 4 x 200 meter relay, pushing Decorah's point total to 15 as of 5:00 Friday afternoon.

Friday afternoon results:
--Girls shot put: Hailey Nierling finished 14th with a toss of 35 feet 7 inches
--Girls Distance Medley Relay: Allie Hafner, Sarah Mikkelson, Fiona Buresh and Katie Nimrod finished 2nd with a time of 4:07.6
--Girls 100 meter hurdles (prelims): Bella Knutson tied for 13th with a time of 16.16 seconds, while Grace Syverson finished 16th with a time of 16.23 seconds
--Girls 4 x 200 meter relay: Fiona Buresh, Allie Hafner, Rylea Ranum, and Rose Gullekson finished 6th with a time of 1:46.62
--Katie Nimrod wins the 400 meter hurdles for the 2nd year in a row, finishing in 1:03.14
--Girls 4 x 100 meter relay: Allie Hafner, Rylea Ranum, Brynne Valkosky, and Rose Gullekson broke the school record in the prelims, with their time of 49.87
--Girls 4 x 400 meter relay: Sarah Mikkelson, Brooke Berns, Jenna Galligan, and Katie Nimrod  finished 1st in the preliminaries with their time of 3:59.49
