The Decorah Viking boys golf team won the conference championship Monday at the par 72 Hickory Grove Course in Oelwein.
Decorah shot a 331 on 18 holes, with Charles City second with a 341, followed by New Hampton at 344, Waverly at 351, Waukon at 371, Oelwein at 386 and Crestwood at 409.
Decorah's Tom Knoke was medalist for the meet with a 39+38=77, while Decorah's Jay Fjelstul was runner-up medalist with a 40+38=78. Other Decorah scores were Jerod Redenius with a 44+43=87, Jared Holthaus with a 45+44=89, Tristan Jostand with a 48+45=93 and Nate Rolfs with a 51+53=104.
Said head coach Rich Gaard, "Winning the conference championship was a great team victory after a short spring with bad weather, it was great to see the boys shoot their best golf of the season!"
On Friday Jay Fjelstul will be playing as an individual at Districts in Manchester, while on Saturday the last team competition will be the Owatonna Invitational.
