Deocrah girls win Regionals and are headed to State

It was several strong, first place finishes for the Decorah girls track and field team on Thursday night at Regionals that led the Vikings to victory. Decorah won the meet with 146 points. Crestwood came in 2nd place with 142, Center Point Urbana 88, Waverly Shell-Rock 86, Charles City 74, Vinton Shellsburg 59, Independence 51, and West Delaware had 36 points.

In field events Ambria Pipho came in 2nd place in the high jump as she cleared 5 feet. Emily Franzen was 3rd at 4 feet, 10 inches. Franzen came in 8th place in the long jump with 14 feet, 7.25 inches. Jordyn Hussain was 5th in the discus at 104 feet, 1 inch. Tori Miller was 8th with 98 feet, 8 inches. Hailey Nierling finished 4th in the shot put at 36 feet, 4.5 inches.

Every relay team for the girls had a first place finish on Thursday night.

Fiona Buresh, Sarah Mikkelson, Brooke Berns, and Katie Nimrod won the distance medley in 4:13.12.
Grace Syverson, Ambria Pipho, Katie Bjergum, and Bella Knutson won the shuttle hurdle meter relay in 1:07.16.
Allie Hafner, Rylea Ranum, Brynne Valkosky, and Rose Gullekson won the 4 x 100 meter relay in 50.55.
Fiona Buresh, Allie Hafner, Rylea Ranum, and Rose Gullekson won the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:45.94.
Sarah Mikkelson, Brooke Berns, Jenna Galligan, and Katie Nimrod won the 4 x 400 meter relay in 4:02.21.
Allie Hafner, Brynne Valkosky, Rylea Ranum, and Katie Nimrod won the sprint medley with their time of 1:49.62.
Jenna Galligan, Shayla Betts, Sarah Mikkelson, and Leila Johnson won the 4 x 800 meter relay with their time of 9:52.95.

Kaityln Rooney finished 5th in the 3000 meter run in 11:31.41. Cassidy Carolan was 6th in 12:01.67. Shayla Betts was 4th in the 1500 meter run in 5:02.72 and Leila Johnson was 7th in 5:10.54. Jenna Galligan was 2nd in the 800 meter run as she finished in 2:22.18, and Brooke Courtney was 5th with her time of 2:31.05.

Brynne Valkosky finished in 2nd place In the 100 meter dash with her time of 12.81, and Rose Gullekson was 3rd with a time of 13.24.

In the 200 meter dash Fiona Buresh finished 2nd in 26.22, and Brooke Berns was 4th was a time of 26.83.
  
Olivia Battles finished in 2nd place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.07, and Meg Sessions was 4th with her time of 1:05.61.

It was a 1st place for Bella Knutson in the 100 meter hurdles with her time of 16.25. Grace Syverson was 2nd with a time of 16.39.

Katie Nimrod found victory in the 400 meter hurdles as she finished in 1st place with 1:04.90, and Madison Sexton finished 2nd with 1:10.81.

All first and second place finishes at regionals receive automatic bids for state, then the next eight highest times in running events receive an at large bid.
