Finally playing in beautiful tennis weather, the Lady Vikes came away with a competitive and satisfying 6-3 victory over the Independence Mustangs on Monday.
Head coach Larry Berland says, "Keeping the fans on the edge of their seats, three Viking matches went the full distance before deciding a victor. This time the close ones went our
way. We decided to play no-add scoring because that is what we will have to do on Saturday. When it comes down to one point to decide a game, it is much better to be on the winning side of that deal.
Vita Domnenko, playing in the #1 spot in singles, avenged a defeat to the same girl that she had lost to in last year's meet. Vita put a bunch of work into her game during the summer season and it is paying huge dividends now. Mara Frieden followed Vita's lead and came away with a solid two set victory in her #2 match.
Alli Groux and Soleil Smith fought their way to victories at #3 and #4 singles. Both girls cinched up their belts and kept the ball coming back, eventually earning their just reward for spot-on focus and stick-to-itism.
In doubles action, Carina Yee and Vita Domnenko put on a clinic at #1 doubles. Playing against two fine doubles players, they just would not allow them any daylight as they executed doubles team play to set up the ole one-two punch."
