Decorah girl tennis team shuts out Oelwein

The Decorah Viking girls tennis team traveled to Oelwein on Thursday night and came away with an impressive 9-0 victory over the Huskies.

Alli Groux had the #1 singles seed and dispatched a good Oelwein player, winning 6-1, 6-3.  Sophomore Payton Schuttee took a 6-0, 6-2 victory at #2 singles, while freshmen Cady Peterson and Morgan Brauer were straight set winners at #3 and #4 singles, respectively.  Kalee Bigler battled a competitive Oelwein player at #5 signles. but prevailed 6-1, 3-6, 10-5.  Helen Weis completed the sweep at singles by taking a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #6 singles.

Alli Groux and Morgan Brauer took a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #1 singles.  Payton Schutte and Cady Peterson had a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #2 doubles.  Kaylee Bigler and Helen Weis took a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 victory at #3 doubles.

Head coach Larry Berland said Thursday's match provided a chance for many new players to compete.  "Our continuing effort this year is to become more aggressive and communicate while all the time being proactive instead of reactive."
