The Decorah boys soccer team kicked off their season in a big way on Saturday. The team played three games in frigid temperatures to claim first place at the Hudson Tournament.
The first victory was a 4-1 win over Postville. The second was a 2-0 win over Waterloo West. In the final match-up, Decorah played Hudson and won 3-1 in Penalty Kicks after drawing the game 0-0 in regulation. Andrew Kozelka had 4 goals on the weekend with Spencer Peterson and Willem Hawley each having one goal. Goalkeepers Avery Dugger and Sam Wilson conceded only one goal on the weekend, and Avery Dugger made three saves in the penalty shoot out.
Head coach James Garcia-Prats says, "Overall, we had a great start to the season this weekend. Obviously the results were positive but it was just great for the boys to finally get out and play. Our foundation is good and hopefully this weekend gave the guys some confidence, but we have a lot to learn and work on to keep getting better for the rest of the season."
