Six Decorah tennis team members participated in the Dave Meyer Memorial Tennis Tournament hosted by Cedar Rapids Washington on Saturday. After a two hour delayed start because of cold temperatures, the competition began.
Decorah's #6 player Rex Huinker stepped up to play #2 singles. Huinker hit many fine strong shots, but just wasn't consistent enough to prevail.
#1 singles Aidan Hunter played the best tennis of his life to finish fourth in a loaded field.
#2 doubles Nate Larson and Kaj Spencer-Berg finished third, playing together for the first time.
#1 doubles Billy Lange and Joe Holland took home second place medals, also playing together for the first time.
"Up and down the lineup I will say our greatest deficiency, relative to our competition, is our serving. You can bet we will be working on serving at practice in the days to come. I will say I was very pleased with their fight and attitude all day long. It was great to get to play even if it was freezing," commented head coach Reg Laursen.
First place went to Cedar Rapids Washington, second place to Iowa City High, third place to Davenport Central, fourth place to Decorah, and fifth place to Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
The boys will be competing tonight at Decorah at 4:00 p.m.
