Decorah Viking boys basketball team overwhelms Waukon

The Decorah Viking boys basketball team was hot from the beginning of its home game against Waukon Tuesday night and never let up, earning an 82-62 victory.

Decorah ran out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter, 22-8, and led by 27 points at halftime, 47-20.  Decorah still led by 22 points at the end of the third quarter, 63-41.

Ten Vikings broke into the scoring column, with Jerod Redenius having a career night, scoring 27 points.  Nick Bockman added 13 points and Tyron Nelson had 10 points for the Vikings, who sank nine 3-pointers.

With the victory, the Vikings pull to within half a game of Waukon in the NEIC standings.  Waukon is 6-5, while Decorah is 5-5 on the season.  Decorah has away games at Charles City and Crestwood remaining on its schedule, while Waukon travels to New Hampton.
