The Decorah Viking wrestling team put in a fairly good performance Saturday at the Sectional Tournament at Luther College, qualifying four wrestlers for next weekend's Districts at Independence.

Kyler Engen at 113 pounds and Philip Ihde at 126 pounds won their weight classes, while Jackson Rolfs at 132 pounds and Andy Lillegraven at 195 pounds finished runners-up.  Just missing qualifying for Districts were Mason Olsgard at 120 pounds, Andy Murphy at 182 pounds and Daniel Schwartzhoff at 295 pounds.

"We are very excited for our four wrestlers advancing to Districts," said Head Coach Jeff Freidhof. "Kyzer and Philip continued to dominate, while Jackson and Andy are wrestling well on their feet but still need some focus work on wrestling from the bottom position. It was exciting to have Andy win his 100th varsity career win on the last match of the tournament and join Philip in that elite club. As with every sectional we are happy for our qualifiers but sad for those whose season has come to an end. It is tough to see wrestlers like Andy Murphy have two tough 1-point losses to the two qualifiers. That shows how close he is to that next level. We have several wrestlers in the category and we look forward to them working in the off season and taking it to the next level next season."

Next Saturday's District Meet will start at noon in Independence, with the best wrestlers from 12 area high schools participating.  Winners and runners-up will qualify for the State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.
