It was a good night for Decorah Viking bowlers as they won every match against the North Fayette Mustangs on Friday.
The boys varsity team was led by Bryon Bruening, who scored a total of 380 in both games. Dawson Holkesvik scored 363 in his two games, Michael Bruening scored 351, Michael Cook scored 338, and Tyler Vande Lune scored 333. The final score after the five Baker rounds was Decorah 2,607 to North Fayette's 2,422. The varsity boys are now 2-0.
Coach Keith Bruening said, "The guys were disappointed in their scores, and that's okay. They are setting their sights and goals high. We are very excited for the rest of the season."
The girls varsity team was led by Madeline Putnam and Nina Stahr, who each bowled 319 in their two individual games. Rachel Hines had a score of 289, Annika Lensch bowled a 252, and Moriah Grinna bowled a 251. Final score was Decorah 2,020 to North Fayette's 1,581. Varsity girls are now 1-1.
"The girls scored the highest scores of the year and have exceeded goals for this time of the year. I'm excited for them to keep improving." commented Bruening.
The boys JV team also won, scoring over 2,500. Justin Redenius and Tristan Jostand led the way.
"I am very proud of the JV team, they are as good as a JV squad there is in Iowa," said Bruening.
