Decorah boys swimming team finishes in third place at Newton Invitational

The Decorah boys swimming team placed third out of six teams at the Newton Invitational on Saturday with 218 points. Indianola won the meet with 332 points, NCMP (Newton, Colfax, Mingo, Pella) finished second with 282 points. Grinnell was fourth with 197 points, Oskaloosa was fifth with 153 points, and Vinton-Shellsburg finished sixth with 104 points.

In the second event, the 200 Meter Medley Relay the team of Gus Grimstad, Noah Faldet, Andrew Heine, and Jackson Penny finished in 2:00.22, good for second place.

Senior Noah Faldet won two events on Saturday. Faldet won the 200 Meter Freestyle with a time of 2:08.91 and the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:08.84.

Freshman Gus Grimstad won the 100 Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:08.17.

Coach Laura Storlie had this to say about the day, "It was an excellent first meet. We had lots of good times and lots to work on for next week."

The Vikings will travel to Cedar Falls for their next competition at 11:30am at Holmes Middle School.
