Paige Werner (12) attended the DASH-LMST Fall Invitational with the Northeastern Swim Team (NST) with one goal in mind; to swim her first ever state qualifying time (Q-time) in the 11-12 50 butterfly. Werner finished the event with a time of 32.28 seconds which was ahead of the Q-time by just 0.11 seconds.
"She really wanted a Q-time but was so nervous before her race," said Head Coach Eric Crawford. "I reassured her prior to the race that she could do it and that if she put her mind to it, then it was going to happen. Her reaction after she saw her time was priceless."
Werner threw her hands in the air in celebration of achieving her first ever Q-time. On the pool deck the rest of NST formed a victory tunnel for her to walk through.
"This was a really cool way to celebrate the hard work she's been putting in. Not only was she excited but the team was excited for their teammate. To see the bond these swimmers have with one another makes me proud beyond words," said Coach Crawford.
Werner was one of seven swimmers to achieve Q-times over the weekend. Cael LaFrentz (10) set two new Q-times over the weekend in the 10 & under 50 breaststroke (43.31) and 100 breaststroke (1:38.55). Other Q-times were set by Alex Berg (10) in the 10 & under 200 free (2:41.26), Jaylee Vobr (9) in the 10 & under 200 free (2:41.90), Bradyn Hook (14) in the Senior 200 fly (2:12.02), Katerina Kovarik (12) in the 11-12 100 free (1:02.20) and Carson Hager (11) in the 11-12 200 IM (2:40.95).
The Northeastern Swim Team returns to competition on December 1-3rd for the ICE Irving B. Weber Invitational in Iowa City.
