Five fall sport coaches at Decorah High School have been honored by their
respective coaches associations in their activities.

Brad Johansen has been named one of five Class 3A at large regional coaches
of the year for his work during the 2017 season.  Johansen completed his
fourth year as head coach for the boys cross country program and helped lead
the Vikings to the Northeast Iowa Conference and State Qualifying meet
Championships and a third place finish at the state meet.

Cristy Nimrod has been named one of five Class 3A at large regional coaches
of the year for her work during the 2017 season.  Nimrod completed her 16th
year as head coach for the girls cross country program and helped lead the
Vikings to their 14th straight Northeast Iowa Conference title in addition
to a state Qualifying meet Championship and a third place finish at the
state meet.

Sarah Nowack has been named the Assistant Girls Cross Country Coach of the
Year by the Iowa Association of Track and Field Coaches.  This is the second
time Nowack has earned the this statewide honor in her 12 years as an
assistant for the girls cross country program.  During her time as an
assistant with the program the Vikings have won the Northeast Iowa
Conference Title all 12 years and won five state titles in addition to three
runner up finishes.  Nowack teaches fifth grade at Decorah Middle School.

Nowack, Nimrod and Johansen will receive their awards at the IATC Hall of
Fame Banquet in Ames on Saturday, December 2nd.

Scott Pierce and Steve Nesteby have been named 2017 Class 3A assistant
coaches of the year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association.  Pierce and
Nesteby have been 9th grade football coaches for Decorah High School the
past 21 years and been a part of 9 district championships, four state
runner-up finishes and a State Championship coaching staff in that time.
Both coaches will be honored at halftime of the Class 3A State Championship
game on Thursday at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
