The Decorah Vikings Girls Swim Team swam in the State Meet at Marshalltown on Saturday. The Vikings earned points in all four events they competed in, placing 23rd out of 32 teams, with 13 points. Ames won the meet with 384 points. This is head coach Allie Bachelder's second year of coaching the Vikings and the second season the team has competed at State under coach Bachelder.
Sophomore Emma Bachelder competed in 2 individual events and 2 relays at State. Bachelder started off the competition for the Vikings in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 24.90, good for 14th place, earning 3 points for her team. Bachelder also competed in the 100 yard breaststroke finishing in 15th place at 1.08.76, earning an additional 2 points.
The relay team of senior Alex Nesset, senior Kelsey Maher, senior Amelia Folkedahl, and sophomore Emma Bachelder placed 14th in the 200 yard freestyle relay, finishing in 1.40.95, earning the Vikings 6 points. The same relay team took 16th place in the 400 yard freestyle relay, which earned 2 points, with their time of 3.42.59.
Coach Bachelder was very pleased with the girls efforts at State saying, "The girls did very well in Marshalltown on Saturday. There were a few personal best times in the relays which is very hard to do after you taper for regionals. I was very happy overall with how they placed in the meet."
