It was a good day to be a Viking on Saturday. The Decorah girls swimming and diving team took first place at Waterloo. The Vikings had 198.5 points, Vinton-Shellsburg took second place with 125.5 points, Waterloo finished in third place with 113 points and Ottumwa had 94 points. Decorah placed first in seven out of 13 events.
Sophomore Emma Bachelder won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.61. Bachelder also won the 100 yard freestyle, finishing in 56.90. Senior Amelia Folkedahl won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.48. Senior Kelsey Maher won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.03.
Sophomore Tori Hine took first place and received 171.20 points in diving.
In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Emma Bachelder, Amelia Folkedahl, Kiana Folkedahl, and Kelsey Maher finished in first place at 1:47.61. Decorah also won the 400 yard freestyle relay with the team of Amelia Folkedahl, Alexandra Nesset, Kelsey Maher, and Emma Bachelder, who finished with a time of 4:00.43.
The Vikings will travel to Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday for their next meet.
