The Decorah Viking freshman football team scored first Friday night in a home game against Crestwood, but was unable to hold the lead, dropping a 32-22 decision.
Mason O'Hara had a 17-yard touchdown reception from Jackson Rolfs in the first quarter and Nick Einck ran into the end zone on the 2-point PAT to give Decorah an 8-0 lead heading into the second quarter. However, Crestwood scored twice to lead 14-8 at halftime and expanded that lead to 26-14 by the end of the third quarter, despite Cael Luzum's one-yard touchdown run for the Vikings. Briggs Duwe of Decorah hauled in a 15-yard pass from Cael Luzum, with Nate Rolfs getting the 2-point PAT, but Crestwood held on for the 10-point victory.
Said head coach Scott Pierce, "We played quite well against another good team. We absolutely improved from week one. 21 different kids had a tackle, 8 different kids ran the ball, and 4 kids caught a pass."
The Viking freshmen, who are now 0-2 on the season, will host Vinton-Shellsburg Friday at 5:00 p.m.
