The Decorah Viking baseball team has ended the 2017 Northeast Iowa Conference baseball schedule with a record of 14 wins and just four losses. That clinched second place in the NEIC for the Vikings after they took two from the Comets in Charles City Friday night.
Decorah won the first game, 9-2, to clinch at least a share of second place in the conference. The Vikings then took the nightcap, winning 4-1, to earn sole possession of second place. New Hampton won the conference title, with Waverly-Shell Rock one game behind the Vikings. Oelwein, Crestwood, Charles City and Waukon finished in that order in conference play.
The Vikings now will play two non-conference games--Monday at home against Cedar Falls and Tuesday at Waterloo against West HS--before starting postseason play Friday evening at Waverly against Charles City. If the Vikings beat Charles City, they would play next week against the winner of Friday night's other game, Crestwood versus Waverly-Shell Rock.
