Andrew Peter named Class 3A Golfer of the Year

Andrew Peter of Decorah has been named the 2010 Iowa 3A Boys Golfer of the Year.

The recognition was made by the Iowa Golf Coaches Association, which also named Jay Monahan of Spencer as 3A Golfer of the year.  It's the second year in a row Andrew Peter has been so recognized.

He was co-runner-up medalist at the State Golf meet this year, helping the Vikings to a third place finish behind Ballard and Spencer.

Andrew Peter joins Cody Schweinefus also of Decorah in being chosen two years in a row.  "To have two of our golfers receiving this honor four out of the last five years is simply fantastic," commented Viking boys Golf Head Coach Rich Gaard.

The award was based on the season 9 hole stroke averages, number of times the player was a meet medalist, where they placed at the state meet, and where they placed at their Conference Meet.  The players had to be nominated by their coach and voted on by the Leadership Council of the Iowa Golf Coaches Assn.

"Andrew is very deserving to be chosen 2010 Player of the Year. His leadership and hard work these past four seasons has been  outstanding. He has been a great role model," said Gaard.

Andrew is the son of Tim and Sandra Peter of Decorah.
