The #10 nationally ranked Luther College softball team won its conference opener against the University of Dubuque on Friday afternoon, but rain and lightning washed out the scheduled second game.
The Norse won game one 3-0, thanks to Lexy Determan's three-hit shutout. Determan faced 27 batters and struck out 11. She also helped her own cause driving in what proved to be the game winning run in the top of the second inning. Kelsey Kittleson drove in two runs in the 6th inning to give the Norse a 3-0 advantage.
The win was Luther's sixth in a row and gives the Norse an overall record of 14 wins and 3 losses. The Norse will return to Iowa Conference action at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, when they will host Buena Vista University.
