The #10 nationally ranked Luther College softball team swept the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Wednesday in Decorah to improve its overall record to 13 wins and 3 losses. The Norse defeated the Blue Devils 6-0 in game one and 8-3 in the nightcap.
In game one, Lexy Determan threw a two-hit shutout en route to her seventh win of the season. Kelsey Kittleson went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs with a bases loaded double in the second inning.
In game two, Kim Lambert struck out 11 batters, tying the school record for career strikeouts. Lambert now has 364 strikeouts--tied with Darsi Doyl (1984-87). Kelsey Kittleson again supplied offense, hitting a two-run home run over the right-center field fence in the second inning.
Stout tied the game in the top of the sixth when Alison Gray hit a three-run home run to left field. The Norse responded with five runs on five hits in the bottom half of this same inning.
Luther will begin Iowa Conference at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the University of Dubuque. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved to Friday due to the forecast of rain on Saturday.
