Luther
College head coach Brian Huinker has been named 2008 IIAC
Men's Tennis Coach of the Year.
It's the third consecutive year Huinker has won the honor
and the fourth time since 2002. Huinker led the Norse
to its conference-record 28th men’s tennis championship,
their second in as many years. The conference
championship meant Luther received an automatic berth to the
NCAA III National Tournament. The Norse will travel to
Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday, May 2nd, for a first
round match against Carthage College.
During his seven years as head coach, Huinker as led the
Norse to a dual meet record of 158-68. He has coached
32 all-conference players including two league Most Valuable
Performers.
Huinker is also the head coach for the women's program.
This year he led the Norse to a school record 28 wins and
was one match shy of also taking the women's team to the
national tournament, dropping a hard-fought 5-4 decision to
Coe College in the championship match of the Iowa Conference
National Qualifier held April 19th. |
