| The top two
contenders for the 2008 Iowa Conference men's tennis
championship squared off on Saturday in Cedar Rapids and it
was Luther edging Coe 5-4.
The Norse picked up wins at #3 singles by Harrison Whiteley
(6-3, 7-6) and at #5 singles by Tim Eisele (6-1, 6-1).
They also swept the doubles competition. Max Busch and
Jono Martin defeated Sam Zerbib and Elliot Rausa 8-4 at #1
doubles; Whiteley and Eisele posted an 8-6 victory over Tom
Jennings and Scott Stegemann at #2 doubles; and Brad Nelson
and Utsab Rijal posted an 8-4 victory over Joey Lankelma and
Greg Janssen at #3 doubles.
The victory gives the Norse a regular season Iowa Conference
record of 6-0, 18-7 overall. Coe is now 2-1 in league play,
12-4 overall.
Seventy miles to the East, the rest of the Norse tennis team
was playing Clarke College and Loras College in Dubuque. The
Norse posted an impressive 9-0 victory over Clarke and 8-1
win over Loras. The three wins increased Luther's
overall record to 18-7, 6-0 in the Iowa Conference. |
