Luther to host Ultimate Frisbee tournament
Luther College has received the bid to host the men and women's Ultimate Players Association Central Region Ultimate Frisbee Championships on April 26th and 27th.

The UPA Central Region Championship games will be played on the athletic fields on the campus of Luther College.  Tournament winners will advance to the UPA College Championship Series National Championships, May 16th, 17th and 18th in Boulder, Colorado.

The Luther tourney is one of eight UPA Regionals played across North America.  The UPA Central Region Championships teams and schedules will be determined after sectional play and will be posted on the UPA website http://www.upa.org.  The top 16 men’s teams and top 16 women’s teams in UPA Sectional tournaments played across the Central Region will advance to the Central Region Championships at Luther.  The UPA Central Region includes Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, the upper peninsula of Michigan, and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba and western Ontario.

Luther Ultimate team captain Dan McAdam, a senior from Farmington, Minn., said 2008 is the second consecutive year Luther has hosted the regional playoffs.  "It's unusual for a facility to host the regional tournament in consecutive years," said McAdam, who heads the college’s Ultimate program and is co-directing the tournament.  "Receiving the bid is a testament to the college’s exceptional facilities and its success in conducting the 2007 regional tournament."

Ultimate Frisbee, called "Ultimate" by players and fans, is one of the fastest growing sports among college and university students across the United States.  The Luther team was established in 2001, has competed in the UPA College Championship Series since 2003, and advanced to the regional tournament in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
